These case studies related to public and global healh issues are provided for education and reference.
American Public Health Association (APHA) Public Health and Transportation Case Studies - Communities of all types – urban, rural, suburban – and with budgets of all sizes are addressing the intersection of transportation and public health, often with special attention given to equity. While there is no single ‘best’ solution that is appropriate for every community, these examples highlight successful programs that show the potential to improve health and equity in communities through transportation decision-making, planning and operations.
The Case Studies for Global Health illustrate how people, organizations, companies and governments have worked together to try to solve a global health challenge. The wide range of topics include the complexity of intellectual property, length and stage of product development, costs and nature of manufacturing, purchasers and markets, financing mechanisms, regulatory issues, capacity building, delivery mechanisms and adoption hurdles.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Epidemiologic Case Studies are interactive exercises developed to teach epidemiologic principles and practices. They are based on real-life outbreaks and public health problems and were developed in collaboration with the original investigators and experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
EMPHNET Case Studies for Public Health in the Eastern Mediterranean Region - The Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET) has developed 12 culturally tailored case studies to be used for teaching purposes to train public health professionals. These case studies cover topics including outbreak investigations, surveillance activities, and complex emergencies.
Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) case studies - CDC developed case studies in applied epidemiology based on real-life epidemiologic investigations and used them for training new Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) officers — CDC’s “disease detectives.” EIS offers these carefully crafted epidemiology case studies for schools of medicine, nursing, and public health to use as a component of an applied epidemiology curriculum.
International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI) case studies - Each national public health institute is different and develops in a unique way. To understand the factors that supported the successful creation and growth of our member NPHIs, IANPHI talked to the leaders of several institutes to understand how their NPHIs had been created – why are NPHIs formed, key ingredients to their successes, and barriers to greater impact. The series of case studies reveal the stories of the NPHIs and provide insights into the process of NPHI development that we hope will be useful to others.

Pan African Medical Journal Case Studies - In Africa, public health curricula have relied on United States-specific exercises owing to the dearth of analogous examples tailored to African contexts. This supplement introduces 11 new case study exercises based on real events in African contexts and written by experienced Africa-based public health trainers and practitioners. These case studies represent the most up-to-date and context-appropriate case study exercises for African public health training programs. These exercises are designed to reinforce and instill competencies for addressing health threats in the future leaders of public health in Africa.
The TEPHINET Library contains over 3,500 investigation reports, manuals, curricula and training documents such as case studies as well as presentation abstracts pertaining to epidemiology and public health.
The World Health Organization (WHO) Case Studies on Social Determinants of Health were commissioned by WHO Regional Offices for the World Conference on Social Determinants of Health. The case studies present successful examples of policy action aiming to reduce health inequities, covering a wide range of issues, including conditional cash transfers, gender-based violence, tuberculosis programmes and maternal and child health.
