Communicating in a Crisis: Be First. Be Right. Be Credible

 

This DISTANCE BASED course enables learners to acquire basic knowledge and skills when they need it, to respond effectively during a health emergency, and to develop a communications plan before an emergency. 

When participants complete the workbook they will be able to:

  • Anticipate communication needs based on the crisis communication lifecycle
  • Build credibility with six emergency message components
  • Identify populations who may require a specific message
  • Handle difficult behaviors in a crisis

When participants complete the webinar they will be able to:

  • Explain why it is important to be ready to communicate during a crisis
  • Consider the psychological aspect of a crisis
  • Use six principles to respond effectively to a crisis

This course includes a self-paced workbook, with paper and pencil exercises as well as internet-based activities. It is complemented by a live webinar that is scheduled by SMDP. An archive of a previously conducted webinar is provided here, so learners can complete the course at their convenience.
