Job Purpose:


Plan, implement and manage/conduct epidemiological studies, in alignment with GSK strategies and priorities, to support GSK vaccine development and to ensure GSK vaccine registration and introduction into country National Immunization Programs in the LATAM region, with focus in Brazil.



Core Responsibilities:



·         Plan, implement, and manage epidemiology projects for Brazil and LATAM that support country, regional and central strategies to introduce, maintain and improve access for GSK vaccines in Brazil and the LATAM region, in consultation with country, regional and central teams.

o   Align project priorities as defined at the country, regional and central levels, in order to fill important information gaps (e.g., post marketing studies, Phase IV clinical trials, burden of disease studies, etc.).

o   Lead study design, study-site feasibility assessment, protocol review, data collection, result compilation and interpretation

o   Lead literature review and compilation of existing epidemiologic data projects.

o   Lead scientific writing for internal and external presentations, reports and publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

o   Evaluate, discuss and approve external study proposals.

·         Support central initiated epidemiology projects for Brazil and LATAM, which includes some level of co-leadership at the regional and central levels.

·         Provide consultancy support on epidemiological issues to internal GSK stakeholders (e.g., country, regional and central Governmental Affairs, Safety, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Operations, Commercial, Medical Affairs, and Quality & Risk Management teams).

·         Support the LATAM Regional office and the LOCs in the preparation and submission of epidemiology data to support government reimbursement or funding of vaccines in national vaccination schedules.

·         Establish strong collaborative networks with epidemiologic scientific and public health institutions at country, regional (e.g., PAHO) and international (e.g., CDC, Johns Hopkins, etc.) levels in order to generate information which will be the basis for important vaccine-related public health decisions.

·         Participate in regional meetings (e.g., Advisory Boards, MCO, etc.) and trainings as appropriate


Support Internal Processes

·         Supports internal process improvement activities and initiatives involving coordination of multidisciplinary working teams across departments

·         Ensures full compliance of all regional epidemiological operations with appropriate local medical, ethical and regulatory standards, in accordance with GSK policies.



·         Manage internal and external communication of regional epidemiology data in the region.

·         Manage local and central health epidemiology projects in Brazil and LATAM region.


Educational/Training Requirements:


·         MD or Ph. D., postgraduate qualification in Epidemiology and Clinical Investigation AND/OR in health economics desirable.

·         Infectious disease and Vaccinology background are desirable.

·         Vaccinology and modelling background desirable.


Experience Requirements:



·         Training in the principles of epidemiologic study design, conduct, and quantitative analytical methods used for Epidemiological studies.

·         Experience in conducting epidemiologic research in cancer, infectious disease, adolescent health, sexually transmitted diseases, or vaccine-related topics.

·         Good methodological skills in epidemiologic research (e.g., survey methodology, modelling studies, case-control studies, retrospective and prospective cohort studies, database studies etc.).

·         Skills and ability to review the statistical and epidemiological literature to identify appropriate methodology to achieve research goals.



·         Ability to function and to collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and multi-cultural setting

·         Ready to work in a rapidly evolving environment meeting high pressure demands.

·         Self-motivated with the ability to effectively work independently and in a team, and to develop credibility with colleagues within and outside Epidemiology.

·         Good interpersonal skills, cross-cultural sensitivity, ability to work in multi-cultural teams.

·         Ability to resolve problems through resourceful use of information and contacts.

·         Ability to convey complex information simply to scientists and non-scientists

·         Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. 

·         Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English and Spanish. 

·         Ability to travel.
