Abstract

Background: Globally, measles is the fi fth killer disease among children under fi ve years of age. Despite high immunization
coverage in Himachal, outbreaks are occurring. Upon two outbreaks in a hilly district in North India, a case control study
was conducted to identify factors contributing to outbreaks and to recommend remedial measures to prevent further
outbreaks.

ABSTRACT
Background: Measles is rightly called as captain of killer team in India. In Himachal Pradesh,
despite high immunization coverage, the outbreaks are occurring. Based upon two outbreaks, we
conducted a qualitative comparative study to describe the help seeking behavior of mothers of
children with measles and to recommend appropriate remedial measures to prevent further outbreaks.
