An Outbreak of Salmonella Serotype Dubin Infections Associated with Eating Egg Sandwiches from a Supermarket -- Zhejiang province, China, 2011

Background: Salmonella infection is estimated to cause 10% of bacterial gastroenteritis outbreaks in China. In October 2011, a gastroenteritis outbreak occurred in school M in Zhejiang Province. We conducted an investigation to identify the risk factors and source of contamination.

Risk Factors for Critical Disease and Death from Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease, Immunosupressants and Immunostimulants – what works?—Chongqing Municipality, China, 2011

Background: In China hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) killed 1416 children in 2010-2011. Those years Chongqing Province had the 3rd (0.13%) and 1st (0.14%) highest case fatality rates in China. We conducted a study to identify risk factors for critical and fatal HFMD.

Risk Factors for Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease Transmission in the Kindergarten Setting, Zhejiang Province, China, 2010

Background: From 2008-2010, an epidemic of hand foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in China has reached 3,415,512 cases and 1,384 fatalities. Of 543 focal outbreaks reported, 82% occurred in kindergartens. The current practice to close kindergartens to control HFMD transmission is disruptive and unevaluated. We conducted a case-control study to identify modifiable risk factors for HFMD transmission in kindergarten.

An Outbreak of Typhoid Fever Caused by Polluted Water in a Rural Village-Jiangxi Province, China, 2010

Background: On September 28, 2010, 26 suspected typhoid fever (TF) cases were reported in a village. We investigated this outbreak to identify the mode of transmission, and recommend prevention and control measures.

A Measles Outbreak among Unvaccinated Children of Migrant Workers: Zhejiang Province, June to August, 2010

Background: Improving vaccination coverage among children of migrant workers (MW) is an important part of Chinese goal of measles elimination by 2012. On July 6, 2010, the parents of a confirmed measles patient reported several similar patients in their village. An investigation was conducted to verify and understand the cause of the outbreak.
