Lyndah Makayotto is a medical epidemiologist heading the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit in the Division of Disease Surveillance and Response at the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation in Kenya. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Science degree in Applied Epidemiology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology. She is also an alumnus of the Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program in Kenya (FELTP-K). She has partici­pated in several outbreak investigations in Kenya.

Background: More than a third of women in Kenya suffer Domestic Violence (DV), in their life time resulting in higher rates of unintended pregnancies, abor¬tions, adverse pregnancies, neonatal and infant outcomes and mental disorders. This study was carried out to determine the prevalence and factors associated with DV among women seeking antenatal care (ANC) in Kisumu District Hospital (KDH).

Prevalence and Associated Factors for Peripheral Neuropathy among Patients on Stavudine attending Meru District Hospital Comprehensive Care Centre—Kenya, 2010.

BACKGROUND: Peripheral neuropathy has been recognized as one of the undesired side effects of antiretroviral therapy particularly nucleoside transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI) .Stavudine a NRTI is used widely to manage HIV/AIDS in Kenya. Following a WHO recommendation that stavudine use be discontinued, health authorities sought information on the local magnitude of the problem to guide policy change. We determined the prevalence and associated factors for peripheral neuropathy among patients on stavudine attending Meru District Hospital Comprehensive Care Centre.
