The 4S Strategy for Dengue: Controlling an Outbreak in a Village in Zamboanga City, Philippines, 2010

Background: On August 24, 2010, the National Epidemiology Center received a report of an ongoing dengue outbreak in a village in Zamboanga City. The village had the most cases. A team was sent to conduct an epidemiologic investigation to establish the existence of an outbreak, determine the risk factors, and recommend control and preventive measures.

Geographically Isolated and Depressed Area(GIDA) Malaria Outbreak within the City -̶ Southern Philippines, 2010

Background: On July 6, 2010, the National Epidemiology Center received a report of increasing malaria cases in a remote village in Davao City, accessible only by an 8-hour helicopter ride. There were no reported case since 2005. An FETP team was sent to conduct an epidemiological investigation to verify the outbreak, identify the risk factors, and recommend control and preventive measures.

A Measles Outbreak among Unvaccinated Children of Migrant Workers: Zhejiang Province, June to August, 2010

Background: Improving vaccination coverage among children of migrant workers (MW) is an important part of Chinese goal of measles elimination by 2012. On July 6, 2010, the parents of a confirmed measles patient reported several similar patients in their village. An investigation was conducted to verify and understand the cause of the outbreak.

Outbreak of Fever of Unknown Etiology Associated with a Swimming Complex, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China, 2010

Background: In August 2010, an outbreak of undifferentiated fever was reported among persons who used the same swimming complex in Ningbo, China. We began an investigation to identify the etiology and mode of transmission and to take prevention and control measures.

Outbreak of newborn nosocomial infection in maternal hospital no. 1, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Jan 2010

Background: Cases of newborn infection at the Maternal hospital, Ulaanbaatar city were notified to the National Infectious Disease Surveillance. Investigation objectives are determine magnitude of this outbreak, and to identify source of this outbreak and risk factors for illness. Laboratory test identified Klebsiella pneumoniae positive in case-newborns.

Food Poisoning Outbreak Associated with the Ingestion of Traditional Lebanese Ground Raw Meat at a Wedding Reception- Mount Lebanon, 2010

Background: In the year 2010, 484 cases of food poisoning were reported. Many of the outbreaks were attributed to ground raw meat, a traditional Lebanese plate. In August 2010, after a wedding reception, over 100 food-poisoning patients were reported. The epidemiologic surveillance team investigated the outbreak.

Foodborne outbreak among guests to a wedding party in a restaurant ―Almaty, Kazakhstan, March 29-April 2, 2010

Introduction: On March 29, 2010, six patients with diarrhea were hospitalized in Almaty city in Kazakhstan. Patients attended a wedding party in a restaurant on March 27. We carried out an investigation during March 31-April 2 to identify the magnitude of the outbreak and to determine its source.

Outbreak investigation of foodborne illness ― Atyrau, Western Kazakhstan, March 8-9, 2010

Background: During March 8-9, 2010, 32 patients were hospitalized with diarrhea in Atyrau in western Kazakhstan. All were workers who lived in a company hostel and ate in its cafeteria. We conducted an investigation March 11- 14, 2010 to identify the source of disease and institute preventive measures.

An explosive outbreak of cholera in a shelter home for mentally retarded females, Howrah, West Bengal, India, 2010

Background: On 13th May 2010, a cluster of diarrhea cases was reported among female residents of a shelter home for mentally retarded, Per-bakshi village, Amta-II block in Howrah district, India. We investigated the outbreak to identify etiologic agent, source of infection and to propose recommendation.
