Epidemiological investigation of mixed outbreaks of measles/varicella in hilly villages of district Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, India, 2007

Background: On 26th September 2006, a local health worker informed us about sudden increased number of cases of fever and rash in three villages of district Kangra. We investigated the suspected outbreak to confirm diagnosis and recommend for prevention and control.

Rabies Outbreak Investigation and Effective Post-exposure Vaccination, Koforidua, Ghana - February 2010

Background: Rabies is a highly fatal zoonosis with about 55,000 annual deaths worldwide, of which 24,000 occur in Africa. In 2008, all nine exposed persons died in a single rabies outbreak in upper-east Ghana. On February 4, 2010, Municipal Veterinary clinic reported a suspected rabies outbreak in suburban-estate, Eastern-Ghana. We investigated the outbreak to determine the causative agent, source, magnitude, and to initiate interventions.

Outbreak of Food Poisoning at a Child Naming Ceremony-Anyaa, Ghana, June 2010

Background: Food poisoning is a common, usually mild, but sometimes deadly illness. In Ghana, the extrapolated incidence of food poisoning is 5.8 million annually. On the16th of June 2010, some guests who attended a child naming ceremony reported abdominal cramps, vomiting, diarrhoea, and fever after returning home. We investigated with the objectives to identify the agent and source of infection and to institute control measures.
