Cluster of Measles Cases among Malnourished Maasai Children, Monduli District, Arusha, Tanzania 2011

Background: On 12 August 2011, the Tanzania Ministry of Health and Social Welfare received a report of a cluster of suspected measles patients from Monduli district. A total of 104 measles cases with 5 deaths (CFR= 4.8%) were reported. Case patients presented with fever, body rashes, diarrhoea and cough.

Outbreak of Dengue type 3 virus infections in Tanzania, 2010

Background: On 15th April 2010, the Tanzania Ministry of Health received reports from EurotravNet of dengue cases diagnosed among travelers returning to Europe following visits to Tanzania. Tanzania had not previously reported a laboratory confirmed dengue fever case. We initiated an investigation to characterize the outbreak and to guide control and preventive measures.
