Typhoid outbreak investigation in Dzivaresekwa Suburb of Harare City, Zimbabwe, 2011

Introduction: Typhoid fever is a systemic infection caused by a gram negative bacterium, Salmonella Typhi. Harare City reported 1078 cases of suspected typhoid fever cases from October 2011 to January 2010. We initiated an investigation to identify possible source of transmission so as to institute control measures.

The Effect of Formal Written Communication on Male Partner Participation in the Prevention of Mother to Child HIV Transmission (PMTCT) Programme in Zvimba District, Zimbabwe, 2010

 Introduction: Data from the Zimbabwe 2001 National Sentinel Surveillance Survey of Antenatal mothers showed HIV sero-prevalence of 30%. Men are recognized as key stakeholders in reproductive health issues. In Zvimba District in 2009, only 6.25% of pregnant women had HIV testing together with their partners.

Factor associated with Influenza A Outbreak at Driefontein Mission, Midlands Zimbabwe, 2009

Background: Influenza A outbreak was detected at Driefontein mission on 6 October 2009 and it affected 412 people. This study was done to investigate risk factors associated with contracting influenza A at Driefontein mission.

Pandemic Influenza A H1N1 Outbreak at Driefontein Mission, Midlands, Zimbabwe, 2009

Introduction: Influenza A outbreak was detected at Driefontein mission on 6 October 2009. 412 cases were line listed. Of these, 28 cases (7%) and 384 (93%) were probable influenza A (H1N1) and suspected cases respectively. We investigated risk factors associated with contracting influenza A at Driefontein mission.

Factors Associated with Severe Occupational Injuries at ZIMASCO Mine in Shurugwi, Zimbabwe, 2010

Introduction: Injury rate among mining workers in Zimbabwe was 131/1000 workers/year in 1998 but rose to 789/1000 workers in 2008. Proportion of severe occupational injuries at ZIMASCO mine increased from 18% in 2008 to 37% in 2009, higher than maximum reported by the International Labour Organization of 30% and 21.9%.
